Sam Harris is a HUGE asshole, but wow, I totally agree with this. :D It’s such a big group that we have to give it a term. How would you like if, under the list of religions, there’s “I don’t believe in a God” compared to Atheist? Or even someone who’s a Christian or Catholic is someone who doesn’t believe in scientology. Someone who’s a scientologist doesn’t believe in a god, either. A vegetarian dislikes/doesn’t believe in eating meat. A Pro-life doesn’t believe in abortion. Sam Harris can kiss my black ass. You need the word just like you need a word to describe everything else. Atheism summarizes a few things, instead of you having to say this long sentence. :l True, but if there was no religion, you wouldn’t need to say any of those things. :D Christopher Hitchens disqualified the term “atheist” because everyone is SOME sort of atheist.  He explained that everyone has a god they don’t believe in, so everyone is an “atheist”.  It’s really one of the most problematic terms there is.  And it’s NOT a religion or even the equivalent of one, and there are many groups of them that could classify themselves differently.  If there was no religion, there would be no atheists. Once you’re past the belief in god or gods, you have an infinite number of real things to believe in.  Why just be an “atheist”?
